iNTERVIEW with Don Bailey

of Bateleurs

In our latest interview, we sat down with Don Bailey, a man whose career journey is as inspiring as the cause he champions. With an early start in Cost and Management Accounting, Don’s passion for aviation took flight in the mid-90s, and since then, his wings have carried him from flying for the UN in Angola to becoming a critical force in South Africa's environmental conservation efforts through The Bateleurs.

The Bateleurs, a non-profit organization that uses aviation to support environmental causes, has been soaring above South Africa’s conservation landscape since 1998, thanks to a dedicated team of over 200 volunteer pilots—Don being one of them since 2005. But now, their work is at a crucial juncture. In this interview, Don shares his personal journey, his passion for conservation, and the pressing need for increased funding to help The Bateleurs triple their missions each year.

As we discussed, The Bateleurs' goal of raising R2.5 million annually isn't just about numbers—it's about real impact. The work they do ranges from counting crocodiles to providing vital support for anti-poaching operations. Every mission they fly helps protect South Africa’s wildlife and preserve its natural heritage, but they need our help to keep flying higher.

In Don's words, "We’re not just flying planes, we’re flying for a cause." If we can come together to support The Bateleurs, we can ensure that their invaluable work continues, making a lasting difference for our environment. So, let’s get into this conversation with Don and see how we can help keep The Bateleurs in the skies, where they belong.
